OBONGI, UGANDA– November 9, 2025: Over 300 beneficiaries of the government’s Emyooga wealth creation program in Obongi District have publicly expressed their profound gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government, crediting the Shs 900 million disbursed through the initiative for dramatically transforming their livelihoods and combating poverty.
The appreciation was voiced during a meeting bringing together 18 Emyooga SACCOs, held at the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office at the Obongi district headquarters this week.
The meeting was specifically convened by the beneficiaries to acknowledge the President’s deliberate efforts in driving socio-economic transformation at the grassroots level.
Mr. Odongkara Kennedy, the Chairperson of the Obongi Emyooga Salon SACCO, who chaired the gathering, disclosed the impressive impact the funds have had on the community.
“Over 300 Emyooga beneficiaries across Obongi District have successfully improved their lives and the welfare of their families by strictly and properly utilizing the seed capital provided to them by the NRM government under the Emyooga program,” Mr. Odongkara stated.
He highlighted a tangible example of growth and reinvestment demonstrated by his own SACCO. Mr. Odongkara revealed that the Obongi Emyooga Salon SACCO, which initially pooled resources to purchase a single one-tonne tricycle, has since maximized its profits to invest further.
“We are proud to announce that from the profits made, we have now been able to purchase a second, larger tricycle of two tonnes, valued at over Shs 13 million,” he confirmed, showcasing the potential for sustainable business expansion inherent in the program.
RDC Hasaka Samuel Mpimbaza commends prudent sse of the Emyoga funds by the beneficiaries.
The RDC Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, lauded the beneficiaries for their financial discipline and commitment to wealth creation.
RDC Hashaka acknowledged the community’s wise use of the Shs 900 million they received from the government, stressing that their success stories are crucial evidence that government funds, when utilized properly, effectively lead to social-economic transformation within the district.
Emyooga, a presidential initiative on wealth and job creation, aims to promote entrepreneurship and job creation by supporting specialized clusters (SACCOs) focused on various trades, including mechanics, musicians, market vendors, and salon operators, enabling them to access affordable credit and scale up their businesses.
The Obongi District meeting serves as a clear indicator of the program’s uptake and success in northern Uganda, reinforcing the government’s goal of moving households out of the subsistence economy and into the money economy.
