South Sudanese Cattle Owners Given Ultimatum to Leave Obongi District Following Eviction

Obongi, Uganda – November 9, 2025 – Fifty-five head of cattle belonging to nine South Sudanese nationals have been evicted from Obongi district, with their owners now facing a 14-day deadline to depart the region. The decisive action was taken on Saturday, November 8th, by the District Security Committee, underscoring a firm stance on land and resource management within the district.
The operation was spearheaded by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, and the Commander of the Obongi detachment, Lieutenant Mugisha. The security committee’s directive saw the swift removal of the livestock, which had reportedly been grazing within the district’s boundaries.
RDC Hashaka confirmed the eviction and issued a clear ultimatum of 14 days to the affected South Sudanese individuals. “We have, on Saturday, November 8th, evicted 55 cows belonging to nine South Sudanese nationals,” stated RDC Hashaka. “These individuals have been granted a period of 14 days to leave Obongi district. This decision is in line with our efforts to maintain law and order.”
The actions stem from concerns over land use, potential environmental impact, or disputes over grazing rights. The presence of livestock without explicit permission or agreement can lead to conflicts between local communities and foreign nationals, especially in Norse area of Obongi.
The 14-day notice period provides a window for the cattle owners to make arrangements for their departure and to relocate their livestock. The District Security Committee’s firm action signals a commitment to enforcing regulations and ensuring that all residents, regardless of nationality, adhere to the established protocols within Obongi. Further details regarding the implementation of the eviction and the response from the affected individuals are yet to be disclosed.Th
Obongi district security Commettee have also evicted over 1000 illegal Balalo cattle weeks ago as per the presidential directive.
