MP Judith Alyek Vs Dr. Opio Acuti in Kole North’s 2026 Parliamentary Race.
KOLE, Uganda – November 21, 2025 – With the 2026 general elections on the horizon, all is now set for Hon. Judith Alyek to win the Kole North parliamentary seat, a move that signals her strong intention to secure leadership and continue to serve the people of Kole North county in the 12th Parliament. Hon. Alyek is currently serving as the District Women’s Representative for Kole. She has already completed two terms in Parliament, from 2016 to the present, and presents a compelling case to be a directly elected MP in Kole North constituency hopefully facing two male candidates namely,MP Opio Acuti Samuel and Okello Sam Blick, based on her extensive legislative experience, impactful committee work, and unwavering commitment to her constituents she is likely to win the 2026 general election.
Hon. Alyek’s track record in Parliament demonstrates a deep engagement with critical issues facing Uganda. Since 2021, she has chaired the Equal Opportunities Committee for a second term, a testament to her dedication to social justice and inclusivity. Before that, from June 2016 to December 2018, she led the Committee on HIV/AIDS and Related Matters, showcasing her commitment to public health. Her involvement extends across a broad spectrum of parliamentary committees, including the Business Committee, Health, National Economy, Foreign Affairs, Presidential Affairs, and Agriculture, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of national governance and policy-making.
Beyond her committee roles, Hon. Alyek is a prominent figure in various parliamentary forums. She has held the influential position of Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group since 2021, a role that underscores her leadership within her regional bloc and her ability to champion their collective interests. She is also an active member of crucial associations and forums such as the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA), the Parliamentary Forum on Immunization, Parliamentary Forum on Quality Health, Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change, Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Development Goals, Parliamentary Forum for Children Affairs, and Parliamentary Forum for Persons with Disabilities. Her service on the Boards of the Uganda AIDS Commission and the International Union of Health Promotion and Education further highlights her expertise and dedication to public service.
In the Plenary, Hon. Alyek has been a vocal advocate for the rights and well-being of vulnerable populations. She has actively pushed for the implementation of policies and legislation safeguarding children, even calling for the establishment of a dedicated authority to monitor and enforce children’s rights. Her advocacy has extended to addressing rights violations in the Lango region and championing the reduction of the SAGE retirement age. Significantly, she successfully advocated for the implementation of a district quota system for the Students’ Loan Scheme, a move approved by Parliament, and has consistently pushed for government assistance for families of persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, Hon. Alyek, in collaboration with the Lango Parliamentary Group, has been instrumental in lobbying for crucial infrastructure and development projects in the Lango Sub-region, including vital road network improvements (such as Lira-Kamdini and Rwekunye-Apac-Lira-Puranga), the upgrade of Akiibua Stadium, and advocating for cattle compensation.
On the ground in Kole North county, Hon. Alyek’s impact is deeply felt. She has consistently supported her constituents, with a particular focus on empowering vulnerable groups—women, youth, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and children. Through targeted training and support programs, she has helped numerous groups, including widows and those living with HIV/AIDS, to enhance their income and improve their livelihoods. Her dedication to education is evident in her extensive support for disadvantaged children through scholarships, bursaries, and direct assistance. In the health sector, Hon. Alyek has gone above and beyond, donating ambulances and medical equipment, including beds and delivery kits, and organizing health camps. Her commitment to improving access to clean water is demonstrated through her support for water and sanitation programs, including the drilling and repair of boreholes.
