KWANIA, UGANDA – December 27, 2025: In a swift move to maintain public order during the festive season, Kwania District’s Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Arikwanga Noon, and Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), Aturu Abraham, have ordered the arrest of seven youths accused of inciting unrest during Christmas Day celebrations.
The seven individuals, described as “hooligans” by local authorities, were apprehended in various parts of Kwania town following reports of unruly behavior and public disturbances. According to officials, the suspects were part of an organized group attempting to turn the Christmas Day festivities into a platform for political agitation.

Some of the arrested youths were reportedly wearing red caps and red berets emblazoned with the logo of the National Unity Platform (NUP), a detail that has raised concerns among local authorities and RDC’ s office about politically motivated disruptions on the 25th December 2025.
“The security of our people is paramount,” RDC Arikwanga Noon stated during an exclusive phone interview with our reporter on Saturday morning. “We had officers on 24/7 patrol to ensure peace and tranquility during the celebrations. We thank God that the day passed successfully, despite these few elements trying to spoil it.”

DRDC Aturu Abraham condemned the actions of the youths, warning against attempts to exploit national holidays for political mobilization.

“We cannot allow anyone to turn Christmas—a day of joy, worship, and family—to what some are calling a ‘people power day’,” Abraham emphasized. “This is not the time for division or violence. It is time for peace, unity, and reflection.”
Abraham also recounted a near-fatal incident during the celebrations. An unidentified motorcyclist narrowly escaped death after losing control and plunging into a swamp along the Kwania road. The rider, suffering from injuries due to suspected over-speeding, was rescued by local residents and taken to a nearby health facility.
“The individual is recovering,” said Abraham. “This is a sobering reminder of the dangers of reckless behavior, especially during public holidays.”

The seven suspects are currently detained at Kwania Central Police Station (CPD), where authorities are recording their statements. According to police, formal charges may be filed depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations into whether the group conspired to cause public fear, incite violence, or disrupt lawful festivities.
Local leaders have welcomed the swift police response, praising the collaboration between the district administration and law enforcement agencies. Community elders have echoed calls for restraint, urging youth to channel their energies into constructive activities rather than political provocation.
As Kwania begins the New Year, the district leadership remains on high alert, with enhanced patrols and community engagement initiatives planned to ensure sustained peace and security.
