Resident District Commissioner Barbara Akech has stepped in to restore order within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Dokolo District after a disagreement over mobilisation funds exposed growing tensions among grassroots party structures.
The dispute arose after Dokolo Sub-county LC III Chairperson Bosco Adoko alleged that some villages received less than the approved funds meant to facilitate mobilisation for President Museveni and NRM flag bearers.
According to Adoko, villages were supposed to receive Shs630,000, but some allegedly got Shs400,000, sparking dissatisfaction among party members.
The district NRM leadership has rejected the allegations.
NRM Publicity Secretary Raphael Okello said the District Executive Committee (DEC) complied with party procedures and fully released the funds.
“Our records clearly show that the approved amounts were issued to all villages,” Okello said.
As internal disagreements threatened to disrupt mobilisation efforts, RDC Akech directed security and administrative teams to verify the claims and calm tensions within the party.
“This is a sensitive political period. We want facts, not speculation. Verification is ongoing to establish what happened at each level,” Akech said.
She explained that investigations are focusing on accountability at village, parish and sub-county levels, where funds were eventually handled.
The RDC also noted that confusion may have been fueled by misunderstandings over party structures, with some individuals who were not part of the recognised mobilisation teams expressing dissatisfaction.
Akech urged party members to prioritise unity as preparations intensify ahead of upcoming political activities, warning that internal wrangles could weaken mobilisation.
The district security committee, she said, is closely supervising the process and will take action against any wrongdoers once investigations are completed.
