Government announces official burial programme for Gen. Moses Ali.

KAMPALA, UGANDA–Government has announced a three-day official burial programme for the fallen Member of Parliament for Adjumani West and former 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. (Rtd) Hon. Moses Ali.
Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in her capacity as Chairperson of the National Organising Committee, the Minister for the Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda said Gen. Ali passed away on Saturday, 18th July 2026 at 4:00pm at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni later notified the nation of the death of “an iconic figure in politics, government, military, and Islamic religious life, and a respected community leader in West Nile,” the minister said.
In line with Islamic tradition, special prayers were held on Sunday, 19th July 2026 at Naguru Mosque, Islamic University in Uganda – Kibuli Campus, Kibuli Mosque, and Old Kampala Mosque.
“Government sincerely commiserates with H.E. the President, the bereaved family, the NRM leadership, the people of West Nile, the Madi sub-region, and all Ugandans upon the loss of a renowned leader and dedicated citizen,” the minister added. “He will be deeply missed by those who knew him, worked with him, and by generations who drew inspiration from his exemplary leadership.”
In accordance with Article 99 of the Constitution, President Museveni directed that Gen. Ali be accorded an official burial.
A hybrid National Organising Committee chaired by the Minister for the Presidency met on Sunday, 19th July 2026 and drew membership from the Office of the President, Parliament, UPDF, Uganda Police Force, and the family.

5:00pm – Vigil/private prayers at his Naguru home - Tuesday, 21st July 2026
9:30am – Arrival of H.E. the President at Parliament as Chief Mourner
10:00am – Parliamentary tribute
2:00pm – Body airlifted to Abiri Chako Village, Adjumani District
5:00pm – Official vigil at Abiri Chako Village - Wednesday, 22nd July 2026
10:00am – West Nile Regional District Council sitting at Paridi Stadium, Adjumani
12:00pm – Burial prayers and ceremony. H.E. the Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, will represent government.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the minister concluded.
