Gov’t declares July 28 public holiday for LC1 elections

KAMPALA, UGANDA–Government has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026 a public holiday to enable citizens to participate in the Local Council 1 elections across the country.
In an official announcement dated July 24, 2026, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Service, Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwire, said the holiday was gazetted to allow Ugandans to take part in the elections.
“The Minister of Public Service informs the general public that Tuesday 28th July 2026 will be observed as a Public Holiday throughout Uganda to enable citizens to participate in the Local Council I elections,” the statement reads.
The announcement was addressed to the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and National Guidance for relay on the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation Network.
Copies were also sent to the Minister of Public Service, Minister of State for Public Service, Chairperson Electoral Commission, Head of Public Service, Ministry of Local Government, Uganda Media
