Obongi RDC Announces Near‑Completion of 3 Billion‑Shilling Gopele Seed Secondary School; Calls on Voters to Back NRM Candidates
By Okidi Patrick
Obongi, Uganda –3 December 2026 : The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, told residents of Gimara Sub‑County that the 3 billion‑shilling Universal Secondary Education (USE) project in Gopele Parish is slated to open its doors for the upcoming first term.
The Gopele Seed Secondary School, a flagship component of the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) 2021‑2026 manifesto, is designed to deliver “universal seed secondary schools” in every Ugandan sub‑county that previously lacked a government‑aided secondary institution. According to the RDC, construction is now over 90 % complete.
Hashaka led a monitoring delegation that included:
Mr. Alexander Atiku, also known as “AK 47”, Chairperson of Chairpersons (LC‑3) for Obongi District and Chairperson of LC‑3 Ewafa Sub‑County,
Robert Komakech, newly appointed Aasistant RDC (ARDC) for Obonginwas also part of the team.
During a site visit, the officials inspected the school’s classrooms, a 400‑seat multipurpose hall, staff houses, ICT and science laboratories, VIP latrines, and a playground.

“The contractor, Spider Contractors Ltd., has delivered a solid structure, and we are confident the school will be ready before the first term begins,” RDC Hashaka said.
In a speech that intertwined project updates with political messaging, Hashaka praised President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government for honoring promises made since Obongi District’s creation in the 2019/2020 fiscal year. He also singled out Hon. Zumura Maneno, Woman MP for Obongi, and Hon. Dr. Bhoka George Didi, Area MP, describing them as “the best MPs the district has ever had” for their role in service delivery.
The RDC urged voters in Gimara Sub‑County and across Obongi to support the NRM flag bearers—including the two MPs, District Chairperson Abibu Buga, LC‑5 and LC‑3 councillors, and other flag‑bearers—so that the district can continue benefiting from government programs.
“The NRM is fulfilling its manifesto; we must protect these gains,” Hashaka declared. “I challenge every voter to back President Museveni and our representatives.”
Mr. Alexander Atiku, addressing a gathering of community leaders, warned against “independent and opposition candidates who are using tribalism and falsehoods” in their campaigns. He appealed for a unified vote for NRM candidates and announced his own withdrawal from the race after losing in party primaries, citing the district’s best interests.
