Battle Group 45 Commander Meets Somali Security Officials to Strengthen Joint Operations.
SOMALIA, AFRICA: January 8, 2026: The Battle Group 45 Commander, Colonel Justus Musenene, has met Somali security officials at the Battle Group 45 Headquarters in Barawe to discuss joint strategies aimed at countering Al-Shabaab and enhancing civilian protection.
During the meeting, Colonel Musenene reaffirmed the commitment of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to work closely with Somali security forces. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and intelligence sharing in addressing the evolving tactics of Al-Shabaab.
“We are here to support our Somali brothers and sisters in maintaining peace and stability. Only through close coordination and unity of effort can we defeat the enemy,” Colonel Musenene said.
He further pledged continued collaboration with the Somali National Army (SNA) and other security partners to strengthen security and contribute to lasting stability in Somalia.
The Barawe District Commissioner, Mr. Cumar Abdullaahi, underscored the importance of joint efforts in confronting the terrorist threat. “We must work together to ensure the safety of our people and stop the spread of Al-Shabaab,” he said, while commending UPDF troops under AUSSOM for their role in maintaining stability in the area.
The 66 Brigade Commander, Colonel Liiban Yusuf Gare, called on all security agencies to remain united in the fight against terrorism. “We are working towards a common goal—defeating terrorism and restoring peace to Somalia,” he noted.
The meeting was attended by senior and junior officers from the Somali National Army and AUSSOM, the Barawe Police Commander, as well as local and community leaders.
