NRM: Rogers Mulindwa Dismisses Viral TikTok Video Showing Fabricated Election Results.

KAMPALA, Uganda – January 18, 2026 – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has categorically in a press statement issued on the 18th January, 2026, dismissed a viral TikTok video circulating online, which claims to show alternative presidential election results placing opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, in the lead. In a strongly worded press statement issued on Sunday, the ruling party labelled the video a deliberate fabrication designed to mislead the public and undermine confidence in Uganda’s electoral process.
The video, allegedly shared by one Fred Lumbuye—a figure previously known for falsely announcing the death of Gen. Salim Saleh—purports to display a screen recording of an official Electoral Commission (EC) results portal with figures contradicting the officially announced outcome.
In a detailed rebuttal, the NRM outlined a series of technical and procedural reasons why the video is “false, misleading, and technically impossible.”
The party’s Senior Manager of Communications, Rogers Mulindwa, explained that the EC’s results transmission system operates on a private, offline Wide Area Network (WAN). “Such a system cannot be accessed, viewed, or recorded from online platforms,” the statement clarified, noting that all public internet access points are isolated from the official tallying infrastructure.
Furthermore, the NRM highlighted that the video lacks any verifiable hallmarks of an official EC communication. It contains no authenticated domain name, system headers, timestamps, or audit references—elements that are mandatory in legitimate election systems.
“The video itself shows clear signs of digital manipulation,” the statement continued. “Technical indicators point to post-production editing, including imported audio overlays that are inconsistent with certified election software. This strongly suggests the clip was either manually altered or created with AI assistance.”
The party also pointed to visual and procedural inconsistencies. The colours, layout, and typography in the circulating clip reportedly do not correspond to the official EC interface used on election day, January 15, 2026. Additionally, the NRM emphasized that all presidential candidates and their accredited agents had direct access to the official results environment and can attest that the interface shown in the video is a fake.
The claim of an “insider leak” was also dismissed. According to the NRM, the EC’s systems are role-based, with every action logged and fully auditable. Any leak of national results would leave a clear “forensic trail,” and no such evidence exists.
“The video in question is therefore a fabrication designed to resemble an official platform and mislead the public,” Mr. Mulindwa concluded. “It did not originate from the Electoral Commission and should be treated as deliberate misinformation.”
The NRM is now urging the public, media outlets, and digital platforms to disregard the video, rely solely on official communications from the Electoral Commission, and refrain from amplifying content that could destabilize confidence in Uganda’s democratic processes.
