Parish Priest of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Obongi District Hails President Museveni After Re-Election

Obongi, Uganda – January 26, 2026: Rev. Father Andama David, the Parish Priest of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Obongi District, has publicly commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for their continued support and development efforts in the region.
Delivering a sermon as the main celebrant during Sunday Mass at St. Anthony’s Church, Father Andama expressed deep gratitude to President Museveni, urging all parishioners to appreciate the leadership and vision that has led to visible improvements in Obongi.
“I stand before you today not only as a shepherd of this parish but as a proud citizen of Obongi District. I thank President Yoweri Museveni and all Ugandans who participated in the just-concluded presidential elections. Your voice has spoken, and your choice has been made,” said Rev. Fr. Andama.
The clergyman lauded the government for what he described as “sincere love” for the people of Obongi, highlighting several development milestones achieved under the current administration. Among the projects cited was the recent donation of a state-of-the-art emergency marine ambulance, which he noted makes Obongi the only district in the region to possess such a vital resource.
“This water ambulance is not just a gift; it is a lifeline for our people, especially those living in remote lakeside communities who previously struggled to access urgent medical care,” Fr. Andama emphasized.
He also praised income-generating initiatives introduced by the government, particularly those targeting the wanainchi (citizens), which he said have empowered many households economically. He encouraged the community to remain patient as other planned government programs are rolled out.
“Development is a journey, not a destination. We must remain united and supportive as we wait for the fulfillment of remaining projects meant to uplift our district,” he added.
Rev. Fr. Andama took the opportunity to challenge newly elected leaders in Obongi to prioritize unity and effective advocacy. He urged them to work together and lobby continuously for equitable development that benefits all constituents.
Interestingly, Fr. Andama’s endorsement comes on the heels of a prophecy he made last year, in which he declared during a homily that President Museveni would win the January 15, 2026, presidential election. With the results now confirmed, many parishioners have taken to social media to commend the priest for his “vision.”
The Mass, which drew a large congregation, was graced by several dignitaries, including Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, local politicians, and technical staff from various government departments. The event fostered a spirit of unity and gratitude, reflecting the broader national mood in the post-election period.
While religious leaders are often expected to remain politically neutral, Fr. Andama maintained that his message was rooted in gratitude rather than political allegiance.
“I speak not as a political figure, but as a man of God who sees the hand of providence in the progress of our people. Let us pray for our leaders and work together for peace, development, and prosperity,” he concluded.
As Obongi looks ahead to the next five years, voices like that of Rev. Fr. Andama David are shaping a narrative of hope, resilience, and communal progress under the current national leadership.
