Akogo Festival 2026: Iteso Culture Meets Business in Kampala Extravaganza
By Okidi Patrick
KAMPALA, UGANDA — The sights and rhythmic sounds of the Akogo are set to take over the city as the Akogo Festival 2026 officially returns to Kampala on May 2.
The highly anticipated cultural extravaganza will be held at the City Royal Resort Hotel, bringing together the Iteso community and cultural enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate identity, heritage, and economic opportunity.
More than just a traditional dance showcase, this year’s festival has been designed as a strategic “meeting point” for culture and commerce. Organisers have issued a call to entrepreneurs and social enterprises to take advantage of the massive gathering to exhibit their products and services.
“This is a unique space where we celebrate who we are while connecting with opportunity,” the organisers noted. “It is a platform to network directly with the Iteso community and tap into an engaged audience that represents a dynamic and expanding market.”
The 2026 edition aims to inspire attendees through insights into business opportunities and social enterprises. By blending entertainment with economic empowerment, the festival seeks to position local brands at the heart of community growth.
Participants will be treated to authentic Iteso cuisine, traditional music, and the iconic Akogo (thumb piano) performances that define the Teso sub-region’s rich history.
