Three Dead, Several Injured as Tribal Clashes Errupt Over Obongi- Adjumani Farmland.

OBONGI, UGANDA — April 10, 2026: Tension is high in Obongi District after tribal clashes over disputed farmland in Adjumani left 3 peolle dead and several others, including a five-year-old child, fighting for their lives.
The bloody confrontation occurred on Friday, April 10, 2026, when a group of residents from Obongi, who were cultivating in Jendua and Apia areas in Adjumani District, were reportedly attacked by suspected Acholi assailants.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Mamawi Kararina. According to eyewitnesses, Kararina was hacked to death with pangas and spears before his body was abandoned at the scene.
Among the survivors is 27-year-old Anjo Grace, who is currently admitted to Obongi Health Centre IV in critical condition. Anjo sustained deep spear wounds to her back and multiple panga cuts on her head and legs. Her five-year-old son, Anyinyat Innocent, was also severely beaten during the frantic assault.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, and the Assistant RDC, Mr. Robert Obina Komakech, rushed to the health facility to check on the survivors.
Speaking with great difficulty from her hospital bed, Anjo told the RDC that the attackers, who were armed with pangas and spears and spoke Acholi, showed no mercy.
“They beat my neighbor, Mamawi Kararina, and chopped him until he died. I heard many gunshots during the attack. After killing him, they turned on us and even beat my little son,” Anjo narrated.
Security Intervention
RDC Hashaka condemned the “barbaric” act and sympathised with the victims, promising that security agencies in both Obongi and Adjumani are coordinating to hunt down the perpetrators.
“We are working to ensure the culprits are brought to book. Our immediate priority is to ensure the injured receive adequate medical treatment while we engage our counterparts in Adjumani to restore calm,” Hashaka said.
The clash is the latest in a series of land-related tensions involving farming communities along the Obongi-Adjumani border. Security has been beefed up in the area to prevent retaliatory attacks.
