KAMPALA, UGANDA – May 1, 2026: As Uganda joins the global community to celebrate International Labour Day, the Minister of State for Defence in charge of Veteran Affairs, Hon. Huda Abason Oleru, has saluted the nation’s veterans for their unwavering commitment to national development through the “Steady Progress” agenda.
In an exclusive interview with TAYARI NEWS UGANDA, the Minister commended the veterans—now transitioned into the civilian workforce—for their discipline and productivity, which she described as vital to the NRM government’s socio-economic transformation goals.
Minister Oleru highlighted that the veterans are no longer just heroes of the past, but active champions of the present economy. She lauded their organized efforts in forming SACCOs and their massive involvement in commercial agriculture to drive wealth creation at the grassroots.
“I laud our veterans for being hardworking people. Many are now engaged in productive agriculture and organized under various SACCOs, contributing significantly to wealth creation and socio-economic transformation,” the Minister said.
She further encouraged veterans to remain resilient, noting that their dedication continues to build a legacy for future generations.
Drawing on spiritual inspiration, the Minister urged the veterans to keep their focus on purposeful labor.
“Hard work with purpose builds not only livelihoods but a future filled with hope and dignity,” she remarked, adding the biblical encouragement: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
“I extend my warmest wishes to the wonderful veterans all over Uganda. May this Labour Day be filled with joy as we celebrate the dignity of work, the strength of our people, and the progress of our nation,” she stated.
As Uganda joins the global community in celebrating international Labour day,, the Minister of Defence incharge Veteran Affairs Jon Oleru Abason, remains committed to ensuring that those who served the nation are fully productive in wealth creation activities like joining SACCOs and practicing commercial agriculture.
