Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has directed the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to assess electricity coverage in Dokolo North County following concerns raised in Parliament over the constituency’s low access to power.
The directive followed a request by Dokolo North MP Joseph Jones Ogwal, who told Parliament that fewer than 30% of residents in the constituency are connected to the national electricity grid.
Ogwal said the limited electricity coverage has slowed economic transformation, affected service delivery and left many communities without reliable power.
He urged the government to explain when the remaining parts of the constituency would benefit from the rural electrification programme.
In response, Nabbanja reiterated the government’s commitment to extending electricity to every parish during the current term of office.
She instructed the Energy Ministry to undertake a field assessment in Dokolo North to establish the extent of the electricity deficit and identify the interventions required to improve access.
According to the Prime Minister, the assessment will provide the government with first-hand information needed to guide future investments in electricity infrastructure.
The development offers renewed hope to residents of Dokolo North, who have long appealed for expanded electricity coverage to support businesses, health facilities, schools and household connectivity.
