Agago LCV Chairperson Otto Wilson calls for Urgent Government Intervention as Famine Outbreak is Likely to be the Greatest Disaster after Prolonged dry spell.

AGAGO — Agago District is facing an impending food crisis after months of prolonged sunshine and extreme heat that completely destroyed crops across the district in all the sub counties.
In a statement to the media, Agago LCV vibrant Chairperson Hon. Otto Wilson, said gardens that had promised a good harvest have dried up before maturity, leaving thousands of households uncertain about their next meal on a daily basis.

“_Unless immediate action is taken, our people are likely to experience severe food shortages within the next six months,_” Hon. Wilson
The district has experienced unusually intense sunshine and heat over the past several weeks. Because the majority of residents depend on rain-fed agriculture lfor both food and income, the crop failure has wiped out both harvests and livelihoods.
Hon. Wilson noted that children, pregnant mothers, the elderly, youth, and other vulnerable groups are at the greatest risk of hunger and malnutrition.

The Chairperson said he intends to formally write to the Minister responsible for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees requesting:
1. An urgent assessment of the situation in Agago
2. Humble request for an immediate government support for affected communities interm of relief and seeds for second season.
He also appealed to development partners, CSOs, religious institutions, and well-wishers to stand with the people of Agago and help cushion communities from the worst effects of the climate being experienced.
Hon. Wilson urged farmers to embrace climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, and drought-tolerant crops to adapt to changing weather patterns. He urged Hon minister Engola Sam to do the needful to help the people of Agago District whose crops have all dried after three months of prolonged and constant dry spell
“The people of Agago are resilient, but resilience must be matched with timely support. We cannot wait until hunger becomes a disaster before we act. The time to intervene is now,_” he said.
