MP Vincent Shedrick Obong Eyit Urges Lira City Residents to Embrace Agriculture.

LIRA CITY, UGANDA: Hon. Vincent Obong Eyit, MP for Lira City West Division, together with GCW/Woman MP Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero and Lira City East Division MP Hon. Alyela Denis Omodi, have secured 83,000 kilograms of seeds for distribution to Lira City residents ahead of the second planting season.
Speaking to our reporter on Monday morning, Hon. Obong urged residents of Lira City to embrace agriculture alongside business.”Through coordination in the Committee of Agriculture and with my fellow MPs of Lira City, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and Alyela Omodi, at least 83,000 kilograms of seeds are already being distributed to Lira City residents,” Obong said.
“Agriculture remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy. Much as people are in the city, they should be able to dig and plant crops on their ancestral land in the village. One may wonder why I joined the Committee of Agriculture. However, it is strategic since most of the progress in production is based on agriculture.”
Seed breakdown
According to the OWC – District Distribution Delivery Advice Slip dated 24-Jul-2026, Lira City is set to receive 83,500 kilograms of assorted seeds under Operation Wealth Creation.
The distribution is being conducted on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th August 2026.

With maize accounting for 70,000kg, Hon. Obong said the intervention is a progressive step toward food security and household income in the city. He pledged to lobby for more inputs through his seat on the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture.
Beneficiaries react:
Esther Apio of Anai Parish commended Hon. Obong Eyit, Dr. Aceng Jane and Hon. Alyela Omodi for securing the 83,000kgs of seeds, saying the support will enable vulnerable households to plant on time.
Adong Dolly Dorcas of Ojwina Ward, Lira City West Division, also thanked the three MPs for empowering Lira City farmers. She said she plans to hire one hectare in Bala Sub-county to plant her maize seeds in time to fight hunger.
Hon. Obong urged all beneficiaries to use the seeds for production and not for sale, noting that increased yields will help reduce food prices in Lira City.
