“Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”
This year’s global theme is “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
According to Hon. Angwech, the theme speaks directly to young people in Lira District and across Least Developed Countries – LDCs who face similar struggles of unemployment, climate change, and limited resources, but share the same dreams.
“In Lira District , Lira city and beyond, young people want jobs, quality education, and a voice in decision making on issues that affect them. Our contexts may differ, but our aspirations are common,” she said.

She noted that the 2026 commemoration puts special focus on youth in LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS who battle poverty and geographic isolation.
Push for productivity in Lango:
With the second rainy season underway, Hon. Angwech Pamella Engola advised youth in Lango Sub-region to get involved in farming and small businesses.
“I encourage our young people to engage in productive agriculture and Income Generating Activities ( IGAs). This is how we build wealth and create jobs for ourselves. The government has programmes like PDM, NUSAF IV and Emyooga — let’s use them ,” she stated.

The youth leader stressed that young people must stop waiting to be invited to the table.
“Young people are not merely leaders of tomorrow. We are key drivers of Uganda’s transformation today. Let’s be creative, be productive, and bring hope and unity to our communities in Lango and Uganda as a whole,” Hon. Angwech said.

She commended H.E the president of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Museveni Kaguta for initiating several projects for the youth in Uganda.
International Youth Day was established by UN General Assembly Resolution 54/120 to highlight youth issues and celebrate their contribution to society.
