Lamwo county MP Hon Nyeko Johnson Kezekiya scores big as Works on Padibe–Paloga–Madi Opei Road is set for August 17, 2026.

LAMWO, UGANDA: Lamwo County MP Hon. Nyeko Johnson Kezekiya has secured a government commitment to rehabilitate the Padibe–Paloga–Madi Opei Road after months of lobbying the Ministry of Works and Transport over its deplorable state.
In a letter dated 10th August 2026, Works and Transport Minister Hon. Byamukama Fred informed the legislator (Hon Nyeko Johnson Kezekiya) that works on the road will commence on 17th August 2026 under the Q1 FY2026/2027 workplan.
Hon Nyeko’s push yields results:
The development follows an appeal by Hon. Nyeko on 16th June 2026 in which he raised alarm over the impassable state of the road, a key economic lifeline for Lamwo District bordering South Sudan.
Responding to the MP, the Minister confirmed that an assessment had been done and the road, a National Road under Kilgum Station, had been prioritized.
“An assessment was done and the road which is currently in a poor state has been programmed for Q1 FY2026/2027. Work is scheduled to commence on 17th August 2026,” Hon. Byamukama wrote.
The Minister added that ministry equipment currently working on the Palabek–Kilgum Road will be redeployed to Padibe–Paloga–Madi Opei once those works are completed on 14th August 2026.
A relief to border communities:
Residents and traders in Lamwo have for long decried the poor state of the road, which becomes impassable during the rainy season, cutting off farmers from markets and hampering cross-border trade.
Hon. Nyeko welcomed the commitment, saying it was a result of continuous engagement with government.
“This road is critical to the people of Lamwo. I thank the Minister for responding positively and I will continue to follow up to ensure the works are done on time and to the required standard,” the MP said.
The Minister also offered to meet Hon. Nyeko for further discussions on infrastructure in the district and directed that he liaises with his Personal Assistant.
Copies of the letter were sent to the State Minister for Works, Permanent Secretary MoWT, Chairperson Parliamentary Committee on Physical Infrastructure, UNRA Commissioner, RDC Lamwo and LCV Chairperson Lamwo.
