5th Division Commander Maj. Gen Keith Katungi honours Gen. Paul Lokech at 5th memorial anniversary.

PADER,UGANDA: Leaders, family members and residents of Acholi sub-region on 21st, August 2026, gathered in Pader District to mark the 5th memorial anniversary of the late Lt. Gen. Paul Lokech, the former Deputy Inspector General of Police.
The late Gen. Paul Lokech, popularly known as the “Lion of Mogadishu” for his gallant role in flushing Al-Shabaab out of Mogadishu, Somalia, died on August 21, 2021, at his home in Buwate, Wakiso District, after suffering a blood clot.
At the main prayers held at Lt. Gen Paul Lokech’s ancestral home in Paipir Village, Pader Town Council, Retired Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo described Lt. Gen. Lokech as a brave and disciplined officer who served the country for over 30 years. The 5th memorial prayer anniversary for the late Lieutenant General Paul Lokech was held at Paipir, Luna Parish in Pader District.
Speaking at the ceremony, Maj Gen Keith Katungyi said Lokech’s legacy of patriotism, wealth creation and selfless service should inspire the young generation. He adviced that the Acholi people including those in Pader District should be united to fight poverty instead of jealousy (” Nyeko in Luo”). Maj.Gen Keith said he will follow up to fast-track the completion of the Paul Lokech Monument that was supposed to be established in Pader town council.
The 5th memorial prayer anniversary for the late Lieutenant General Paul Lokech was held at Paipir, Luna Parish in Pader District on Friday 21 August, 2026.
“The best way to remember Gen. Lokech is by completing his wealth creation projects he dreamt of for his people of Pader,” Katungyi said.
He promised to folow up on the issue of the monument of Lt. Gen Paul Lokech.
The memorial prayer was attended by Former chief Justice Hon Alfonse Owiny Dollo, Obongi CAO Otim Benson Humphrey, LCV Pader District Akena Alfred former pader district chairman Rtd Col Obwoya Fearless, Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Pader, Lomongin Augustine, UPDF officers, RPC East Aswa Region. Among his children who attended the 5th memmorial service were,Winnie Anyango Lokech, Robbinson Lokech, Nancy Lokec, Robbinson Lokech among others and police leadership, local leaders and members of the Lumbele clan.
Former chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo urged all the clan leaders and Acholi people to embrace cassava growing to fight hunger. He also promised to continue advocating for roco paco initiative.
The memmorial service was led by Anglican Bishop Wilson Kitara of Kitgum Diocese.
Gen. Lokech was promoted from Major General to Lieutenant General by President Museveni for his exemplary service.
