Political Panic Looms in Lira City East Division Ahead of 2031 Polls as Former Amolatar MP Okot Bitek Junior Eyes the same Seat.

By Our Reporters
LIRA CITY– Panic has gripped political camps in Lira City following rumours that former Amolatar County Member of Parliament, Mr Okot Bitek Junior, who recently crossed from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), intends to contest for the Lira City East Division parliamentary seat in 2031.
If he contests, Mr Bitek will face off with the incumbent MP, Mr Alyela Denis Omodi.
In a related development, there are also rumours that former Erute South MP, Mr Odur Jonathan, is likely to cross from Erute South to Lira City East Division.

Should he make the move, Mr Odur will battle Mr Ocen James alias “Agipi” of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), whereas MP Alyela Omodi Denis of the NRM will battle Okot Bitek Junior and other contenders in the NRM primaries come 2031.

Meanwhile, former Amolatar County MP and former FDC National Legal Secretary, Hon. Okot Moses Bitek, has officially crossed to the NRM, saying he has chosen to work from within government to better advance the interests of his constituents.
Bitek was received at the NRM party headquarters in Kampala by the party Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, together with a group of former FDC members who also defected to the ruling party.

The delegation included FDC members from Amolatar District, among them district leaders and former political contestants. They were accompanied by Amolatar NRM District Chairman, Mr Olwit Kamilo, and members of the District Executive Committee among others.
When contacted for their independent comment, both Okot Bitek Junior and Odur Johnathan did not answer our repeated phone calls by press time.
