Aletiru Scovia alias “Mama Museveni” Declared Unopposed as Obongi District Women’s Council Chairperson

OBONGI – Hon. Aletiru Scovia, alias Mama Museveni, has been declared Chairperson of the Women’s Council for Obongi District.
She was declared unopposed by the Obongi District Returning Officer, Mr. Akena Innocent, assisted by the Electoral Commission Registrar for Obongi Town Council, Mr. Buga Fazil, at the Electoral Commission offices in Obongi.
Akena congratulated Mama Museveni and her executive committee upon their election from village to district level and appealed to them to work towards uplifting the lives of women in the district.
In her acceptance speech, Aletiru thanked the women of Obongi for entrusting her with leadership from the village up to the district.
She said her first priority will be to strengthen the NRM party in Obongi and recruit more members.
She also pledged to champion women’s rights and ensure that all government programmes targeting women reach the intended beneficiaries.
Aletiru further vowed to fight the high school dropout rate, which she said stands at over 70 percent in primary schools, and to combat defilement in the district.
