Presidential Directive on Charcoal Takes Effect as Deputy RDC Cosmas Okidi orders Arrest of 10 People in Gulu.

GULU – Implementation of the presidential directive on environmental protection has taken full force in Gulu District.
On September 6, 2026, the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), in conjunction with the LCV Chairperson, launched an impromptu operation at Okuncan Village, Omel Sub-county, to crack down on the illegal commercial charcoal business that is destroying hundreds of hectares of forest land.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) for Gulu, Mr Cosmas James Okidi, said he directed the arrest of 10 suspects involved in defying the presidential directive and peddling corruption.
“Upon completion of files, they will face legal battles,” the Deputy RDC said.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to enforce President Museveni’s directive banning commercial charcoal production and trade that has led to massive environmental degradation in Northern Uganda.
Commissikner James Okidi was praised by many people for enforcing presidential directive as legally binded by the rule of law.
Jane Akello a 45 yer old woman promised to always adhere to the directive.
