The Woman Member of Parliament for Obongi District, Hon. Dr. Zumura Maneno, has been officially nominated as the NRM flagbearer for the 2026 general elections.
Her nomination cements her place among the key contenders seeking to retain seats under the ruling party’s banner.
The nomination exercise took place at the Electoral Commission offices in Obongi Town Council, Obongi District.
Dr. Maneno arrived at the venue accompanied by a large crowd of supporters, displaying the NRM flag that was handed to her by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his recent visit to Obongi.
Addressing thousands of jubilant supporters at Aringajobi Primary School playground in Aliba Sub-County, Hon. Dr. Maneno expressed gratitude to the people of Obongi for their continued trust and overwhelming support during the NRM primaries.
She reaffirmed her commitment to advancing development initiatives that improve livelihoods across the district.
The event was graced by several leaders, including Hon. Dr. Bhoka George Didi, the area MP for Obongi; Abibu Buga, the District Chairperson; Manga Charles, the PLU Regional Coordinator for Madi; and Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the Resident District Commissioner for Obongi.
Her nomination marks a significant step in the NRM’s preparations for the 2026 polls, as Obongi positions itself as one of the key districts to watch in the West Nile sub-region.
