Jubilation in Obongi as ‘Mama Museveni’ Aletiru elected unopposed as NRM flag bearer for Women Council.

OBONGI, UGANDA: There was excitement in Obongi Town council on after Hon. Aletiru Scovia, alias “Mama Museveni”, was declared unopposed as the NRM flag bearer for Women Council Chairperson for Obongi Town Council.
The former Leader of Opposition in Obongi District was declared unopposed by the NRM Registrar for Obongi Town Council, Edward Maiku, at the NRM party offices after her only challenger, one Senya, reportedly withdrew from the race.
The declaration sparked jubilation as NRM supporters and voters of Hon. Aletiru took to the streets chanting “Museveni Oyee… NRM Oyee… Mama Museveni… Scovia Oyee… Obongi Oyee… Women Oyee!”
Dressed in NRM T-shirts, supporters sang party songs, danced and flashed the NRM symbol of the raised thumb.
“Mission to unite women”
After the procession, Hon. Aletiru hosted her voters and NRM supporters to a luncheon, followed by more dancing to patriotic NRM songs.
In her speech, she said her main mission is to unite women and end gender-based violence. She also pledged to promote government programs including PDM, Emyooga, UWEP and GROW.
“I am going to fight against defilement and marginalisation of women. I will also join the war against corruption by promoting President Museveni’s campaign of ‘Kisanja no more sleep’,” she said.
She was officially received by President Yoweri Museveni at Lionga Playground in Obongi Town Council alongside over 100 FDC supporters she mobilized to join NRM.
From FDC to NRM
Hon. Aletiru Scovia, who previously served as Leader of Opposition and District Councillor, crossed from FDC to NRM on 17th October last year.
Since crossing, she has been mobilizing votes for the NRM Presidential candidate and other NRM flag bearers in the district.
