Alebtong, Uganda – November 10, 2025 – The political landscape of Alebtong has been ignited with palpable excitement as Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, the NRM flag bearer for Ajuri County, officially launched his campaign for the 2026-2031 parliamentary term. His inaugural event at Aweiggo Parish, Angeta Sub-county, drew a significant and engaged crowd, eager to hear his vision for the district.

Dubbed “Atin Alwak” by his constituents, Hon. Obua, who also serves as the NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, presented a “brilliant manifesto” that resonated with the attendees. He was joined in his campaign efforts by Hon. Ambrose Ongom Ongom, the NRM flag bearer for LCV Alebtong District, underscoring a united front for the ruling party in the region.
The campaign trail saw Hon. Obua address supporters in three distinct locations, each marked by impressive turnouts. The enthusiasm of the crowds was evident as they actively listened to his proposals, indicating a keen interest in the direction he intends to steer Alebtong.
Echoing the importance of a substantive campaign message, Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Geoffrey Okiswa, urged all nominated candidates to strictly adhere to the Electoral Commission’s guidelines and to conduct their campaigns peacefully. Speaking to TAYARI NEWS UGANDA, Okiswa emphasized that the focus should be on “real manifestos,” urging for scrutiny based on tangible socio-economic transformation plans.
“The best candidates should be talking about real manifestos,” Okiswa stated. “The scrutiny of candidates’ manifestos should be based on socio-economic transformation now anchored by PDM, Emyooga, YLP, and other livelihood programs.” He further advised voters to evaluate candidates based on their “managerial practices anchored by patriotism.”
The sentiment from the RDC highlights an expectation for candidates to demonstrate a clear understanding and practical approach to implementing government programs aimed at improving the livelihoods of Alebtong residents.
As the campaign season officially commences, the initial turnout and focus on Obua’s manifesto suggest a robust electoral contest ahead. The call for peaceful and issue-based campaigning from local authorities sets the tone for what is anticipated to be a closely watched election in Alebtong. The electorate is being encouraged to engage critically with the platforms presented and to cast their votes wisely in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
