SOROTI, UGANDA – November 10, 2025 – Excitement surged through Soroti City East Division today as Independent candidate Rodney Mukula Akongel officially launched his campaign for the 12th Parliament in Aloet Ward. The event, held at Aloet Central, electrified the crowd with energy and enthusiasm, signaling a spirited beginning to Mukula’s political journey.
Mukula, vying for the Member of Parliament seat for Soroti City East Division, galvanized the audience with his vision for a modernized future, promising a new era of progress and development for the region. Supporters were visibly inspired by his commitment to bringing positive change and were eager to join forces in building a brighter tomorrow. The air was filled with anticipation and hope as his campaign gained momentum, sparking a wave of optimism throughout Soroti City East.
Operating under the unifying slogan “All for one, one for all,” Akongel outlined his manifesto, built upon three core pillars: economic empowerment, social service delivery, and good governance. Speaking passionately, he pledged to work collaboratively with the government to connect power, establish more health centers, and build additional schools, addressing critical needs within the community.
The launch drew strong endorsements from local leaders. Valentine Goma, the female Councilor for Aloet Ward, appealed directly to voters, urging them to unite and cast their ballots for Rodney Mukula. Isaac Elakuna, the former speaker of the Soroti City Council, highlighted Akongel’s “vast network connection” as a crucial asset that would ease lobbying efforts for the City’s development.

Further bolstering support, John Junior Ekutelek, Chairman of the General Purpose Committee and a former MP aspirant for Soroti City East Division during the NRM Party primaries, echoed calls for the people of Soroti City East Division to rally behind Mukula. Akongel’s track record of community service precedes him, notably his successful initiative to fix 21 boreholes across 25 wards in Soroti East, significantly improving access to clean water.
The vibrant launch was graced with performances by popular musicians and comedians, including Rodgavana and General Fireman, who entertained the massive crowd, further demonstrating widespread support for Mukula’s candidature. Locals welcomed him with the traditional Akogo signature, a powerful symbol of unity and heritage deeply rooted in Soroti/Teso culture. The melodies of the Akogo set a celebratory tone, blending tradition with the promise of renewal for Soroti East.

Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Rodney Mukula expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support from the people of Aloet. He reiterated his pledge to champion a people-centered leadership, rooted in accountability, inclusion, and sustainable development. In response, the locals vowed to “do justice” at the ballot, promising to revive the “good memories and spirit of togetherness” that once defined Soroti City East.
As the campaign trail officially begins, Aloet Ward has once again shown that the rhythm of hope continues to beat strongly in Soroti. The Member of Parliament elections are slated to take place on January 15, 2026, according to the Electoral Commission’s elections roadmap.
