OBONGI, UGANDA– November 10 ,2025 :Obongi District today received a crucial consignment of drugs and medical supplies, valued at a substantial UGX 320,358,232. The shipment, delivered by the National Medical Stores (NMS), is expected to significantly stabilize stock levels and enhance healthcare service delivery across local health facilities.
The comprehensive delivery, which arrived at the district headquarters, included a wide range of essential resources necessary for both routine treatment and critical care.
The supplies comprise essential medicines for common ailments such as malaria, cough, and flu, alongside critical items including Anti-Retroviral drugs (ARVs), intravenous (IV) fluids, detergents, mama kits (for safe childbirth), and specialized laboratory reagents needed for diagnostics.
The consignment was officially handed over to district leadership earlier today. Receiving the vital supplies were the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, and the Assistant District Health Officer (DHO), Lomerechu Dominic.
RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka expressed strong gratitude to NMS for the timely delivery, emphasizing that the massive shipment addresses persistent critical needs within the community.
“This is a major victory for the people of Obongi,” RDC Hashaka stated during the handover ceremony. “A consignment worth over three hundred million shillings ensures that our citizens will not suffer stock-outs in the crucial areas of malaria treatment, maternal health, and HIV/AIDS care for the foreseeable future.”
The RDC stressed the immediate need for transparency and swift distribution, warning district health officers against any form of diversion or hoarding.
“Accountability is paramount. We must ensure these vital medicines reach every intended health center—from the main hospital down to the remotest clinic—without delay,” he added.
Assistant DHO Lomerechu Dominic highlighted the strategic importance of the specialized items in the consignment. He noted that the inclusion of sufficient ARVs ensures the continuity of treatment for people living with HIV in the district, while the renewed stock of mama kits will directly impact maternal and newborn health outcomes.
“The laboratory reagents are equally crucial,” Dominic explained. “They will significantly enhance our diagnostic capabilities, allowing health workers to make faster and more accurate treatment decisions, especially concerning infectious diseases like malaria.”
The delivery confirms the commitment of the National Medical Stores to fulfill its mandate of providing consistent and equitable access to essential medicines and health supplies across all regions of Uganda, ensuring that Obongi’s healthcare system remains robust and responsive to the needs of its population. Distribution to various health center IIIs and IVs is expected to commence immediately.
