Independent Candidates Andrew Obibi and Laika Betty Gain Momentum as They Launch Campaigns in Omoro district bearing the slogan “Omoro Wa ,Uganda Wa”

The political landscape in Omoro District is witnessing a significant surge of support for independent candidates as the race for the 2026-2031 term officially commences. Mr. Okot Andrew Obibi, vying for the LCV Chairperson seat, and Ms. Laika Betty Shered, an independent candidate for Woman Member of Parliament, have successfully launched their campaigns, receiving an overwhelming reception from the electorate.
The two candidates, who were recently nominated by the Electoral Commission of Omoro District, kicked off their campaigns on November 10th, 2025, in adherence to the EC guidelines. Their campaign trail began in Lalogi-Gangkal, where they were met by enthusiastic crowds.
Mr. Okot Andrew Obibi has been gathering substantial momentum since his nomination day. Reports from across the district’s sub-counties—including Odek, Acet, Lalogi, Awere, Lalogi Town Council, and Opit—indicate a groundswell of support, prompting early predictions of a strong lead for the independent candidate.
In Awere Sub-county, a voter identified as Akello Betty stated, “This time, Okot Andrew Obibi and Betty Laika are the right leaders. They are very competent and vibrant leaders who can lobby and deliver for the whole of Omoro District.”
The sentiment on the ground suggests a desire for fresh leadership. Voters speaking to our correspondents expressed strong confidence in the duo( Laika Betty and Andrew Okot Obibi) in Lalogi, Opit ,Acet, Odek and Lakwana sub county respectively.
The support for the candidates is rooted in their community-focused manifestos. Mr. Oceng Dalson, a resident of Opit , highlighted the appeal of Andrew Obibi and Betty Shered’s candidature describing it as “community pro and a bottom-up agenda.” Key pillars of her agenda include improving the standard of education, addressing the critical issue of youth unemployment, upgrading Lalogi Health Centre IV to a hospital status, and providing support to vulnerable groups, farmers, and orphans.
The enthusiastic launch signals a highly competitive race ahead of the 2026 general elections, with independent candidates positioning themselves as formidable challengers to the established political structures in Omoro District.
