Alebtong RDC Okiswa Geoffrey, Mourns Lango Paramount Chief, Praising Yosam Odur Ebii as a ‘Unifying Leader’
LIRA, UGANDA – November 20, 2025: Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Geoffrey Okiswa, has joined leaders and other officials in mourning the passing of His Highness the Paramount Chief of Lango Cultural Foundation , Yosam Odur Ebii, hailing the late “Won Nyaci” as a steadfast leader dedicated to peace and unity.
RDC Okiswa made the remarks during a brief interview with TAYARI NEWS UGANDA on Thursday November 20, 2025.While addressing members of the media from the Mayor’s Garden,Okiswa confirmed that the region had lost one of its most historical figures.
Lango paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii passed away about a week ago at the age of 99. He is scheduled to be laid to rest this Saturday, November 22nd, in Apac district.
Okiswa lamented the loss, emphasizing that the people of Lango have been deprived of a unifying force known for his profound efforts in restoring harmony across the sub-region.
“The people of Lango have lost a good unifying leader who struggled for peace,” Okiswa stated.
Drawing on the history of the Lango cultural Foundation, the RDC highlighted the late chief’s vibrancy and unwavering commitment to his subjects throughout his long tenure.
“He said according to the history that he learnt, Won Nyaci was a very vibrant leader who stood with the people all the times and lobbied many things for the people of Lango,” Okiswa told reporters.
The RDC confirmed that official tributes were being paid by government officials at the highest level. He detailed his participation in a Special Regional Council Meeting convened specifically to honour the life and legacy of the late Paramount Chief.
Okiswa confirmed that he joined other central and regional government figures, including Dr. Alice Akello, Head of the RDCs Secretariat Northern region, in paying their last respects.
“We have joined, together with Dr. Alice Akello, Head of RDCs Secretariat Northern, other distinguished mourners of Lango and beyond to pay tribute, in a Special Regional Council Meeting, to the late H.H Paramount Chief of Lango,” Okiswa stated.
The death of Yosam Odur Ebii has caused deep mourning to all the people across northern Uganda and beyond ahead of his burial on Saturday.
