ALEBTONG, UGANDA – November 24, 2025 : An unidentified individual suspected of involvement in theft or robbery was brutally lynched by an angry mob in Alebtong District on Sunday, November 23, 2025. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, has drawn sharp condemnation from local authorities against the perpetrators of vigilante justice.

The tragic event took place at Kai village, Kai parish in Akura Sub-county, according to a report furnished by the Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Okiswa Geoffrey.
Speaking to local media, RDC Okiswa confirmed the death, stating that the unidentified body was recovered by police soon after the incident was reported.
However police officers were dispatched to the scene in Akura, where they found the man deceased following the mob action. The body was subsequently conveyed by police to the Alebtong Health Centre IV (HC4) mortuary, where it awaits a mandatory postmortem examination. This procedure is intended to officially determine the cause of death and assist in formal identification.
RDC Geoffrey has issued a stern warning regarding the limits of community action, stressing that while the government is committed to eradicating crime, mob violence is illegal and unacceptable.
“While we condemn, strongly, thieving and robbery in our communities, we do not condone mob action,” RDC Okiswa stated emphatically. “Citizens must allow law enforcement agencies to exercise their lawful duty. Taking the law into one’s own hands is a crime in itself.”
Appeal for Identification
With the victim yet to be identified, the RDC issued a public appeal urging the family and acquaintances of the deceased to come forward.
“We appeal to the relatives [of the deceased] to get to the police for further details and claim the body for burial,” the RDC urged, confirming that investigations are underway to establish the identities of those involved in the lynching or mob action.
Authorities have initiated a joint investigation into both the suspected crime committed by the deceased and the subsequent violence that resulted in his death.
May his soul rest in peace (MHSRIP).
