Betty Amongi’s “ORIB CING” Manifesto Rally Paralyzes Barapwo as Lira City Heats Up Ahead of 2026 Elections

Lira City, Uganda — December 11, 2025: Thousands of residents flocked to Barapwo Ward on Thursday, December 11, 2025 as Hon. Betty Amongi Akena, the 2026–2031 Woman MP candidate for Lira City, takes her campaign trail to the area focused on economic empowerment. Her “ORIB CING” (a Luo word meaning “let us work together to solve community challenges financially ”) agenda that drew a full-capacity crowd at Barapwo primary school venue, with many arriving hours early to secure a spot.

Hon. Minister Amongi, a seasoned politician, outlined a manifesto centered on agriculture, job creation, healthcare access, and women’s emancipation. “We must prioritize income generation and meaningful economic activities, especially in agriculture, to lift livelihoods across Lira City,” she declared to the jubilating crowd. Key to her agenda is the provision of health insurance cards for expectant mothers, initiatives to improve healthcare and treatment accessibility in about four different medical facilities within Lira city.Others are, Eradication of unemployment among the youth , and fostering unity among the city’s electorate, were key in her list of manifesto of 2026 general elections . The Luo phrase “ORIB CING” underscores her call for collective action to address local issues.

Her campaign team including; Hon.Denis Peter Odongo Odul, Hon Ebong Opeto Emmanuel, Okello Daniel, Ogwang Mike Veve, Akello Lydia, Dina Bua, Juke Joel among others, emphasized that electorate consider and favour UPC candidates in the forthcoming election. “This isn’t just about politics—it’s about action,” said juke joel. “Our goal is to ensure every household in Lira feels the impact of real development, that is why some section of NRM members are supporting Hon.Betty Amongi ” Said Dina Bua.
In the same rally, Lira city west Division incumbent MP Obong Eyit, outlined his track record of service delivery including infrastructure projects. Eyit assured residents of ongoing efforts to demarcate forest reserves and rehabilitate the Odokomit-Lira University road, a long-standing community demand. “I’ve written another letter to H.E. the President to fast-track these projects,” he stated. Notably, Eyit has personally funded road repairs and donated an ambulance to Barapwo’s health facility, positioning himself as “the only MP in Uganda to use his own money for road rehabilitation.”

Hon Shedrick Obong Eyit highlighted his sponsorship of over 100 vocational students at Light Vocational Schools in Lira City West Division and criticized some politicians who “boast about government facilities as if they belong to them.” He also pushed for increased enrollment at the Presidential Skilling Hub, urging the president to admit over 200 students to “empower vulnerable youth in Lira City .”
As Amongi’s grassroots mobilization gets to the climax, Lira City residents are eager to choose between transformative economic strategies and proven developmental results. Amongi’s emphasis on women’s empowerment and agricultural innovation contrasts with UPC MP flag bearer for Lira City West Division, Hon.Vincent Obong Eyit’s focus on electricity, education and infrastructure, reflecting divergent visions for the city’s future ahead of 2026 general elections.With the 2026 elections just months away, the political tussle in Lira City promises to shape the region’s development trajectory in the coming years as electorate are ready to vote for candidate with a practical manifesto.
