Uganda’s Presidential Race: Museveni Leads in Pre-Election opinion Poll with 75.8% Support.

KAMPALA, UGANDA — December 30, 2025: A new opinion poll conducted by Research World International Limited has placed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, representing the National Resistance Movement (NRM), at the forefront of Uganda’s presidential race ahead of the January 15, 2026, elections. The survey indicates Museveni holds a commanding 75.8% of voter support, significantly outpacing his closest rival, popular singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu (Bobi Wine) of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who is second with 21.2%.

The poll, conducted between November 15 and December 12, 2025, involved 1,000 Ugandans surveyed across 24 districts representing all sub-regions of the country. It details a stark disparity in public preference, with Museveni’s lead reflecting his entrenched position as Uganda’s longest-serving leader. Other candidates, including Gregory Mugisha Muntu of the Alliance of National Transformation Party (ANT) at 1%, Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) at 0.5%, and a collective 1.5% for other parties such as that of Munyagwa Sserunga of (CMP), Bulira Kabinga of (RPP) party Kasibante Robert of (NPP), and Mabirizi Joseph of (CP) party remain far behind.
According to Research World International’s management, the findings underscore the current political landscape as the country approaches the polls. The organization has scheduled a follow-up poll for January 1, 2026, to assess any shifts in public sentiment closer to the election date.
