
Alebtong RDC Urges Peace and Unity Ahead of General Elections as 2026 Begins.

ALEBTONG, UGANDA – December 31, 2025: As 2025 concludes and the world welcomes 2026, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Okiswa Geoffrey of Alebtong District delivered a heartfelt New Year message, urging residents to prioritize peace, unity, and democratic values ahead of general elections scheduled for January 15, 2026.
In a statement issued on December 31, 2025, RDC Geoffrey extended festive greetings to the people of Alebtong and beyond, celebrating the “joyous new year ”. He also commended voters for maintaining “calm and peaceful campaigns” during the electioneering period, a critical phase as Uganda prepares to select its leaders during the 2026 general elections.

The RDC emphasized the importance of upholding the NRM’s core values, particularly democracy, patriotism, and pan-Africanism, in the lead-up to the polls. “Let us ensure peace prevails for free and fair elections. Say NO to abusive, hate, or derogatory talks. Say NO to violence,” he asserted, stressing that such actions risk “the destruction of life, health, and property.”

Highlighting the NRM’s legacy of socio-economic transformation of president Museveni and the NRM ideology. The RDC cited progress in Alebtong, including the achievement of Government Chief Whip Rt. Hon. Denis Hamson Obua whereby the construction of schools, health facilities stocked with essential medicines, electricity extension, and initiatives like the PDM, Emyooga , and youth livelihood program (YLP) and UWEP.

“Leadership, at its essence, is about development through peace, job creation, and wealth creation,” he said, crediting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and NRM leaders like Hon Obua Hamson, Dr. Lakisa Mercy and others for a peaceful campaign laying the groundwork for progress ahead of general election
To ensure continued growth, the RDC urged citizens to practice financial discipline through savings.
“We must vote wisely and remember that the essence of unity is in peace,” he added. The District Security Committee (DSC) has pledged to guarantee “peaceful campaigns and elections” on January 15, a day crucial for selecting better leadersduring 2026 general election.

The RDC’s message concluded with a call to action: “Let us all get to vote on D. Day and all the subsequent voting days for the DLG .”
