Odongo DK Advocates for Unity After Accepting Alebtong LC5 Election Loss to Amrose

ALEBTONG, UGANDA — In a heartwarming display of democratic maturity, Odongo DK, the outgoing District Chairperson (LCV) of Alebtong, publicly accepted the election results of the recent District Chairperson polls, congratulating the victorious candidate, Hon. Ongom Amrose of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). Delivered to a gathering of citizens, leaders, and media, Odongo’s speech underscored the importance of unity, service, and the sanctity of democratic choice.

A Humble Transition:
“I formally accept the outcome of the just-concluded elections with joy in my heart,” Odongo declared, emphasizing that the “heavy burden of Alebtong has been lifted from my head” to make way for new leadership. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to Amrose and the newly elected councillors, stating, “The people have spoken, and their voice is supreme—it is the voice of God.”

Odongo, who led Alebtong from 2010–2016 and again from 2021–2026, reflected on his tenure with gratitude. “For 16 years, the people entrusted me to serve this great district. I did so with commitment, integrity, and love,” he said, adding that his leadership extended to overseeing Lango District and City. His tenure, he asserted, was marked by resilience in the face of challenges and a shared vision for progress.

Leadership as Service
Central to Odongo’s message was the philosophy that leadership is not about titles but service. “The true measure of leadership is not how long you stay in office, but the impact you leave behind,” he quoted, vowing to have “landed the plane safely” for the next chapter of Alebtong’s development.

He praised the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) for nurturing his political journey and thanked all competing parties—NRM, FDC, and others—for fostering a competitive yet harmonious democratic environment. “Democracy thrives where there is diversity of voices,” he remarked, highlighting Alebtong’s growth as a model of mature political engagement.

Unity and Forgiveness:
In a poignant call to supporters, Odongo urged solidarity with the new administration for the sake of peace and development. “Alebtong is bigger than any individual,” he emphasized, urging citizens to rally behind the next government.

To those who opposed him, he extended forgiveness. “Democracy gives everyone the right to choose,” he said, embracing the adage, “In diversity, we find strength.” However, he warned against spreading falsehoods, stating, “Falsehood is like a loan—you enjoy it today, but it is repaid tomorrow with heavy interest.” Citing Scripture, he affirmed, “The truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
Concluding his remarks, Odongo expressed gratitude and peace in stepping down, drawing from 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” He prayed for divine guidance for the incoming leadership and the continued blessings of Alebtong, Uganda, and even his political adversaries.

Democratic Legacy
Odongo’s speech reaffirmed the spirit of grace in defeat, setting a benchmark for democratic transitions in the region. His emphasis on unity and service serves as a reminder that while elections determine leadership, it is shared values that sustain progress.
