LIRA CITY, January 28, 2026 — A devastating fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:14 PM in Anai Agali Cell, Anai Ward, Lira City West Division, destroying a five-roomed residential house and sparking concerns over the incident’s cause.
The North Kyoga Regional Fire and Rescue team, led by Cpl Achala, was dispatched to the scene after an emergency call reported the blaze. Arriving swiftly, the team used fire unit UP 4741 to combat the inferno, which had already engulfed the entire structure. Firefighters successfully contained and extinguished the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.
The affected property belongs to Odong Jasper, whose household belongings, including bedding and other domestic items, were completely destroyed. During the incident, Mr. Jasper’s wife collapsed due to shock and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Authorities confirmed that her personal details were not immediately available at the time of the emergency.
“Operations were conducted promptly to secure the area and ensure the safety of nearby residents,” said Cpl Achala, citing the team’s swift response as critical in averting a larger disaster.
While no further injuries were reported, the trauma of the incident has left the local community in shock. Neighbors expressed relief that the fire was contained in time to protect surrounding buildings.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the territorial police at Lira City West Division. Preliminary inquiries are ongoing, with officials urging residents to cooperate with any future statements to aid in determining the incident’s origin.
