OBONGI, UGANDA — February 3, 2026: There was jubilation during a significant official handover of leadership at Gopelle Community Secondary School. The event, held on Tuesday, saw the transition from the outgoing Headteacher to a newly appointed headteacher by the Ministry of Education and Sports, signaling renewed hopes for improved academic performance in Obongi District.
The ceremony underscored the district’s commitment to strengthening its education sector, particularly through collaborative efforts. Speaking at the event, Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Komaakech Robert Obina urged all stakeholders—parents, educators, and local leaders—to unite in advancing the district’s educational outcomes. “Obongi currently need to prioritize education. Now that the elections are over, let’s set aside our political differences and focus on building our community through quality education,” ARDC Obina Komakech emphasized.
The Gopelle Community Secondary School, constructed by the Government of Uganda, is now fully operational as a government-aided institution. The school’s commissioning is expected to alleviate pressure on existing facilities while expanding access to secondary education in the region. District Education Officer (DEO), Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (ACAO), and the Secretary for Social Services attended the handover. The Resident District Commissioner, Mpimbaza Hashaka Samuel, delegated a representative to oversee the event.

The new Headteacher, appointed by the Ministry of Education and Sports, was tasked with steering the school’s growth amid challenges in the district’s education system. Obina emphasised the importance of teamwork, stating, “This transition is not just about changing leadership but about fostering a culture of cooperation. The success of our students depends on collective action.”
The event highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to decentralize education delivery and ensure equitable access to learning opportunities. With the new school operational, stakeholders in Obongi are hopeful that infrastructure and leadership improvements will translate into better academic performance and increased enrollment in secondary education.
As the district moves forward, the message from leaders like ARDC Komakech Obina Latin Paco remains clear: unity, collaboration, and a shared vision are key to overcoming obstacles and fostering a brighter future for Obongi’s residents.
