LIRA CITY: RCC Egole, ARCCs Rallies over 1,000 Dr. Obote College Students, Applauds Headteacher Over Innovations.

LIRA CITY, UGANDA — Strategic routine school engagements by the Office of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) have successfully restored absolute peace and eliminated violent strikes in government-aided secondary schools across Lira City, with minimal cases registered since 2023.
The breakthrough development was revealed by the Lira Resident City Commissioner, Lawrence Emmy Egole, during a routine school engagement conducted by his office at Dr. Obote College, Boroboro, on Friday, July 17, 2026.

Addressing an attentive assembly of over 1,000 students, Egole—who proudly returned to the institution as an Old Boy (OB)—commended the school’s Headteacher, Rev. Dick Alengo, for championing academic excellence, discipline, and outstanding student innovations.
Reflecting on the discpline of schools in Lira city, commissioner Egole disclosed that the city-wide dialogues and engazement have served as an effective way to restore disvpline to students.

“Our routine engagements with students have greatly contributed to peace in schools. Between 2020 and 2022, we experienced several strikes and demonstrations in some schools within Lira City, but through dialogue and continuous engagement, we have not registered such incidents in Lira City schools since 2023,” RCC Egole narrated.
He implored learners to completely reject violent paths, urging them to utilize open dialogue with administrative heads whenever grievances arise instead of destroying valuable school infrastructure.

The strategic tour of Dr. Obote College marks the seventh government school visited by the RCC’s team in their ongoing sweeping peace campaign. Other schools already engaged include Lira Secondary School, Lango College, Comboni College, Railway Seed Secondary School, Lira Town College, and St. Catherine Girls Secondary School.
With the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations fast approaching, Egole challenged national candidates to optimize their remaining months.

He advised the students body to build deep, respectful ties with their teachers, characterizing them as the true architects of their formative lives.
“About 80 percent of your time is spent with your teachers, while only about 20 percent is spent with your parents. Make your teachers your best friends because they are preparing you for your future,” the RCC counselled.
He further tasked the students to uphold absolute discipline, integrity, and unconditional respect for their instructors, irrespective of their age. To seal academic victory, Egole urged the learners to aggressively form group discussions to freely share peer knowledge, stressing that collective academic teamwork is a proven tool for outstanding final grades.
Mind-Blowing Innovation & State-of-the-Art Labs

During the administrative engagement, the school headteacher, Rev. Dick Alengo, shared spectacular milestones being achieved by the students, notably an advanced robotics project. Learners at the college have developed a specialized robot engineered to navigate hospital wards and distribute prescription drugs directly to patient bedsides.
Alengo warmly thanked the Office of the President for its unwavering commitment to interacting with learners and supporting urban education frameworks. He added that the national candidates have already completed their pre-mock examinations and are currently undergoing thorough correction clinics to iron out academic weaknesses before final UNEB seating.

The headteacher also heaped praise on the school’s talented contingent that recently hoisted the region’s flag high during the national school competitions held in Gulu, stating that it cemented Dr. Obote College’s status as a powerhouse for both classroom and co-curricular victory.

The RCC’s team further went on a guided inspection tour of newly built infrastructure on the campus grounds, assessing the ultra-modern science laboratories, a newly stocked computer library, and a main library block set up to upscale the local learning environment.

The Assistant Resident City Commissioner (ARCC), Otucu Bonny, reminded the learners that academic sweat yields lifelong gold. “The pain you experience while in school today is temporary, but the success you achieve after education will remain with you forever for the rest of your life,” Bonny declared, urging them to view themselves as the immediate future leaders of Uganda of tommorrow.

In a matching tone of confidence, ARCC Boney .F.Okello Alele pushed the boys to believe in their unique identities regardless of their social backgrounds. He uniquely observed that his deep trust in the school’s stellar administration forced him to enroll his own child as a Senior One student at the college this year, asserting that discipline is the greatest asset any student can pack from school.
Reinforcing the message of focus, the Lira City East Division Deputy RCC, Stephen Odongo, attributed his own career ascent to early humility and radical obedience to his former teachers. He urged the boys to consciously screen out toxic peer influences and make choices that their future selves would proud of.
Speaking to Tayari News Uganda, right after the high-powered engagement, multiple students expressed joy, describing the RCC’s visit as a deeply fatherly intervention that has injected renewed hope, focus, and drive to conquer their upcoming national papers.
