Obongi, Uganda- February 18, 2026: In a significant boost to grassroots economic empowerment, members of the Obongi Constituency Emyooga Boda Boda SACCO have acquired two brand-new Bajaj Boxer motorcycles using funds disbursed through the government’s Micro Finance Support Center Ltd (MFSC).
The motorcycles were officially handed over during a colorful ceremony held at the Office of the President headquarters in Obongi town, marking yet another milestone in the National Enterprise and Productivity Enhancement Programme (NEPPP), commonly known as Emyooga.
The SACCO, led by its Chairperson, Mr. Jimmy Dratia Kagwa, received the motorbikes as part of government-backed financing aimed at enhancing income-generating activities among Uganda’s youth and vulnerable groups. The Emyooga program, launched under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s administration, continues to provide microfinance grants to village savings and credit cooperative organizations (SACCOs) across the country.
“We are deeply grateful to the President and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for prioritizing the welfare of the wanainchi through the Emyooga initiative,” said Kagwa during the handover event. “These motorcycles will not only improve our mobility but will also increase our daily earnings and transform our livelihoods.”

The handover ceremony was graced by key government officials, including Obongi District Commercial Officer, Mr. Denis Uzi, and Mr. Simon Peter Anyanzo Lenin, Chairperson of the Moyo SACCO Board of Directors. Both hailed the initiative as a practical demonstration of the government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and job creation.
“Empowering boda boda riders with access to affordable capital is not just about giving them motorcycles—it’s about investing in their dignity, their families, and the broader rural economy,” said Uzi. “Programs like Emyooga are bridging the financial gap for those who were once excluded from formal credit systems.”
The Emyooga program has gained momentum in the West Nile region, with Obongi district emerging as one of the success stories. The SACCO members are expected to use the motorcycles collectively, rotating access based on a transparent schedule, with profits reinvested into expanding their asset base.
The RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka disclosed that Obongi which has so far received 940 million shillings from government through the Micro Finance Support Center Ltd.
Hashaka challenged the boda boda riders to be innovatlve by starting a service center, repair center for motorcycles and sale of motorcycle spare parts so that they make more money.
Riders at the event recounted how the program has already helped reduce poverty, increase school enrollment for their children, and improve household food security.
As Uganda continues to navigate youth unemployment and rural underdevelopment, the Obongi boda boda SACCO stands as a symbol of hope—proof that small investments, when well-targeted, can ignite lasting socio-economic transformation.
