ADJUMANI/OBONGI: The death toll from a brutal attack in Apia, Adjumani district, has risen to four following violent tribal clashes between suspected residents of Amuru and Obongi districts.
The victims, who were reportedly attacked while cultivating land in Jendua and Apia on Friday, April 10, include three adults and an unidentified infant. Security has since been heightened to prevent further bloodshed in the disputed areas.
According to Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the deceased include Mamawi Kararina, a man in his 50s from Moyo district who was burnt beyond recognition inside his house. Other victims have been identified as Ana Abiria and Susan Odatinga, both from Obongi district.
The fourth victim, an unidentified baby, was also caught in the fray of the attack, which witnesses say involved assailants armed with pangas and spears.
The number of those injured has also climbed to four. One victim is currently fighting for their life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Adjumani Hospital, while another was rushed to Obongi Health Centre IV for emergency treatment.
Adjumani RDC, Toko Swibe, confirmed the fatalities and described the scene as a “shocking clash” of extreme violence.
RDC Hashaka, however, assured the public that the situation is currently under control. “The situation is now calm. Security patrols and deployments are already in place to ensure peace returns to the affected communities,” he stated.
