Ministry of Works halts Obongi–Sinyanya route from June 13; travellers advised to use Laropi Ferry.

The Ministry of Works and Transport has temporarily suspended MV Obongi ferry services on the Obongi–Sinyanya route over a technical fault.
In a public notice issued today, the Ministry said the vessel, which connects Obongi and Adjumani Districts, developed a fault requiring immediate attention.
“In the interest of public safety, ferry services on this route have been suspended with effect from 13 June 2026 until further notice,” the notice reads.
Repairs underway:
Ministry technical teams have been deployed to carry out maintenance and remedial works. The suspension will remain until repairs are complete.
Members of the public will be informed once services resume.
Alternative route:
Travellers are advised to use Route 1: Kampala – Gulu – Adjumani – MV Laropi Ferry – Moyo – Obongi and vice versa.
MV Obongi is the main link between Obongi and Adjumani across the Albert Nile. Its suspension is expected to affect traders, school children, and patients accessing services on either side. The RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka has confirmed the suspension of the Obongi Sinyanya ferry and called upon the ferry users to be patient as all that is possible is being done to restore the Ferry services.
Hashaka disclosed that the Ministry of works and Transport has already dispatched a team of technical staff to repair the ferry. The Obongi RDC confirmed that the technical team is already at Obongi landing site to start the repairs.

RDC Hashaka cautioned travelers against moving on boats without life jackets and also avoid using over loaded boats to avoid drowning and other accidents.
