LIRA,UGANDA : April 13, 2026: The Lango Cultural Institution has clarified its position regarding President Yoweri Museveni’s upcoming visit to Lira City, stating it will not lead the organizing committee to maintain political neutrality.
The President is scheduled to visit Lango College grounds on April 18, 2026. While initial reports suggested the visit was for a public lecture, the Office of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) according to Counsel Okwir, has since clarified that the event is a “Thanksgiving and Victory Celebration”.

In a statement issued on Monday evening , the spokesperson for the Won Nyaci me Lango (Paramount Chief), Mr. Patrick Okwir, explained that as a cultural body, the institution is legally barred from spearheading partisan political events.
“If the President is coming for a victory celebration, we are required to exhibit utmost neutrality. The celebration of the President’s victory can only be organized by the NRM party in collaboration with relevant stakeholders,” Okwir stated.
Moral Support:
Despite stepping back from the leadership of the organizing committee, the cultural institution has pledged its moral support for the event. Mr. Okwir noted that the institution would play an advisory role if requested and that its leaders would attend the ceremony upon invitation.
“We wish the committee well and pray that the event is colorful and befitting of the presidential victory. We hope it creates a great impact for the people of Lango, who overwhelmingly voted for His Excellency,” the statement added.
Call for Turnout
The institution urged the people of Lango to turn up in large numbers at Lango College to grace the occasion. Official communication from the government and the NRM party regarding the final program is still expected as this website will update you accordingly.
