SCRAP DEALER, TWO JUVENILES ARRESTED OVER LIRA CITY BURGLARY

LIRA: Police in Lira City have arrested three suspects, including a scrap dealer and two juveniles, following a daring house break-in at Teso Bar “C” Cell, Lira City West Division.
The suspects were picked up in connection with a burglary reported by Atino Majuma, a 48-year-old businesswoman, whose residence was raided in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026.
The Midnight Raid
According to the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the assailants gained entry into Majuma’s house by breaking through her door while she was asleep.
According tonpoloce PRO North Kyoga Region, upon waking up, the victim discovered that her 24-inch flat-screen television, a Tecno mobile phone, and a backpack had been stolen. In a strange twist, the thugs also dismantled and made off with her water meter from outside the house.
Following a tip-off from a resident identified as Ogwang, the victim was led to a scrap yard operated by 20-year-old Dominic Opio in Teso “A” Cell. This lead resulted in the arrest of Opio and two accomplices aged 16 and 13, both residents of Tetugo Cell in Adyel Ward.
A police team led by the Officer in Charge of Starch Factory Police Station, Sgt. Opio, visited the scene and conducted a search.
“During the operation, we recovered four metallic water meters as exhibits. Preliminary investigations suggest these items were stolen from different locations, indicating the suspects may be part of a wider theft syndicate targeting utility infrastructure,” SP Okema
The suspects are currently in custody at Lira City Central Police Station as detectives record statements from witnesses. Police have warned residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals dealing in scrap metal, which has become a hotspot for stolen household and utility items.
Investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining electronics and identify other members of the criminal gang.
