GULU, UGANDA- April 17, 2026:
A fatal road accident occurred on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Aswa Bridgeresulting in the instant death of a truck driver.
According to Cosmas Okidi, the Gulu Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), the accident involved a Fuso truck that was heavily loaded with over 1,000 bags of groundnut seeds.
The driver of the truck died on the spot, while the co-driver sustained serious injuries. The survivor was rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest the truck may have lost control while approaching the bridge. Police are yet to comment on the matter as investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash, including possible factors such as mechanical failure or overloading has kicked off.
The wreckage of the truck and the scattered seeds remained at the scene as authorities worked to clear the road. DRDC Okidi urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when navigating bridges and narrow highway sections to avoid further loss of life.
