OTUKE, UGANDA- April 26, 2026: The Member of Parliament for Otuke East Constituency, Hon. MP Julius Acon Bua, has launched a major water project to drill several new boreholes, fulfilling a key campaign promise to provide safe water to his constituents.
The initiative has kicked off with the drilling of four boreholes in Otuke East and one in Abia sub-county, Alebtong District. These are part of a larger commitment to deliver 10 boreholes to the most water-stressed areas in the region.
Targeted Locations:
The new water sources are being established at:

- Ajia in Gotojwang Parish, Olilim sub-county.
- Te-Oboke in Omwonylee Parish, Ogor sub-county.
- Atinkok in Abia sub-county, Alebtong District.
- Awaka Ogik in Anep-Moroto Parish, Orum sub-county.
Francis Omara, a resident who witnessed the drilling, admitted that many locals had begun to lose hope. “A long time had passed since the elections, and some of us thought it was just a political promise. We are relieved to see the machines on the ground,” Omara said.
Beyond politics, Hon. MP Acon stated that the delay was due to the logistics of coordinating with his international partners. He emphasized that the project aims to combat waterborne diseases and improve domestic hygiene, in line with government public health goals.
“During the campaigns, I saw the struggle our people face. My intention is to ensure every household has access to clean water to improve livelihoods,” Acon said.
The MP, a world-renowned former athlete, revealed that he is leveraging his global network, including friends in the United States and Australia, to fund these initiatives. Aside from water, his development agenda includes seed distribution, goat rearing projects, and borehole repairs.
Hon MP Acon urged the beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities. He specifically advised residents to fence off the boreholes to prevent livestock from damaging the sources or contaminating the water.
“I remain committed to serving my people. We will continue to seek assistance from all available means to bring development to Otuke,” he added.
