OBONGI, UGANDA-April 27, 2026: Residents of Obongi district on Saturday joined the nationwide wave of festivities marking the 52nd birthday of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
Led by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, a sea of wananchi and civil servants took to the streets in a celebratory “Birthday Run” that brought business in the town to a brief standstill.
The event, a local iteration of the “Run for Hope” campaign, was a display of political coordination. It was bankrolled and organized by the Obongi Woman MP, Hon. Zumura Maneno—who doubles as the PLU district coordinator—alongside her deputy and district councillor-elect, Crispus Asindua.
While flagging off the participants, RDC Hashaka Mpimbaza Samuel, who represented the CDF, did not hold back on the superlatives. He described Gen Muhoozi as a “hero” whose leadership has triggered “fundamental changes” within both the UPDF and the broader Ugandan state.
“He has put up a spirited fight against the cancer of corruption and launched projects that are directly putting money into the pockets of the vulnerable,” Hashaka told the crowd.
The RDC’s enthusiasm was shared by the PLU coordinator for Madi sub-region, Manga Charles, who urged Ugandans to “emulate” the General’s leadership style.
The run notably attracted a diverse mix of local power players, signaling the PLU’s deepening footprint in the region. Among those involved in the run for the General were the district speaker, Hon. Obit, the district UNATU chairperson, Osman Apiku, and the LC III chairperson, Alexander Atiku (popularly known as AK-47).
Also in the Birthday run was Hon. Aletiru Scovia, the district councillor for workers—locally nicknamed “Mama Museveni”—further cementing the event’s status as a top-tier NRM-PLU mobilization drive.
As the sun set over Obongi, the organizers expressed gratitude to Hon. MP Maneno Zumura for sponsoring the running kits, framing the day not just as a birthday fete, but as a victory lap for the “Muhoozi project” in West Nile.
