LIRA, UGANDA – May 1, 2026: As Uganda joins the rest of the world to celebrate International Labour Day, the Member of Parliament-elect for Erute South, Hon. Sam Engola, has called on his constituents to embrace hard work and unity as the primary drivers of regional transformation.
In a special Labour Day message, Engola paid tribute to the diverse workforce in Erute South and the broader Lango sub-region, including civil servants, the business community, farmers, and the informal sector, particularly boda boda riders .
Engola described the resilience of the local workforce as the “foundation” upon which the district of Lira and the nation at large continue to thrive. He noted that the tireless efforts of individuals in their respective roles are what build strong families and a prosperous community.
“Your commitment to honest work is the pillar upon which Erute County grows. Every role you play, whether in a shop, on a farm, riding boda boda or in a government office, contributes meaningfully to our shared progress,” Erute MP-elect stated.
Engola, who secured victory in the 2026 polls to represent Erute South County for the 2026–2031 term, urged the workforce to operate with integrity and purpose. He stressed that unity remains the key to creating a prosperous future for the next generation.
“Let us work together to create a better future. My best wishes go out to the resilient and hardworking people of Erute South,” he added.
Engola’s message aligns with the government’s current focus on the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, programs designed to move more Ugandans into the money economy. He pledged to use his upcoming term to lobby for more opportunities that support the “tireless efforts” of the people of Erute South.
The national celebrations for Labour Day 2026 are being held under the theme: “Safeguarding Uganda’s Progress through an Empowered Workforce.”
