LIRA CITY,UGANDA – Detectives in Lira City West Division have arrested six suspects following a horrific gang rape incident involving a 20-year-old businesswoman in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Elizabeth Akech, was reportedly assaulted by two different groups of men in a double ordeal that has shocked the residents of Amuca Ward.
The Midnight Ambush
According to North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident occurred on May 2, 2026, at approximately 1:00 AM.
Akech was in the company of four colleagues, returning from Grand Paradise Hotel, when they were ambushed at Owiti Cell by a gang of over ten unidentified men. While her colleagues managed to flee and alert the authorities, the assailants dragged Akech into a nearby bush. Police reports indicate that seven members of the gang took turns raping the victim before releasing her.
Double Ordeal
In a chilling turn of events, as the victim attempted to reach her home in Aminyanga Cell, she was intercepted by another pair of unidentified men at Olago Cell around 2:00 AM, who subjected her to a second sexual assault.
Police Swing into Action
Following the report, the Territorial Police launched an intelligence-led operation, resulting in the swift arrest of six suspects. Those in custody have been identified as:
- Ogwang Stanley (20)
- Okot Janan (17)
- Odok Joshua (20)
- Ocaya Emmanuel (21)
- Mule Emmy (20)
- Ayo Brian (17)
Weapons Recovered
“Preliminary findings indicate that some of the suspects were found in possession of breaking implements and dangerous weapons, including a knife,” SP Okema stated.
