NRM SG Todwong, Lokii John Baptist and South Sudan’s SPLM Officials formalise ties.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Sudan’s Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) to formalise political and ideological cooperation between the two sister parties.
NRM Vice-Chairperson for Karamoja, hailed the partnership as a historic step toward consolidating long-standing ties between Uganda and South Sudan.
Lokii, who was tasked by the NRM Secretariat to receive the South Sudanese delegation, noted that the meeting symbolised a deepening relationship rooted in shared liberation values, patriotism, and Pan-Africanism.
“We share a lot in common politically, socially, economically, and ideologically,” Lokii said, adding that the cultural connections between northern Uganda and South Sudan further cement this bond.
He praised President Yoweri Museveni for championing regional stability and Pan-Africanism, ideals he said are mirrored in the SPLM’s political direction.
The NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong, signed on behalf of the NRM, while the SPLM delegation was led by Dr. Akol Paul Kordit. Todwong emphasized that while the two parties have cooperated for decades, the MOU provides a formal framework for future operations, particularly in trade and social welfare.
The engagement comes as the two nations continue to enhance bilateral relations in security and trade, with leaders stressing the importance of political stability in East Africa.
The agreement, aimed at strengthening regional integration and socio-economic transformation, was signed on Monday at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala.
