President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been sworn in for a new five-year term at the Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday 12, May 2026.
The event, which drew thousands of supporters and several visiting Heads of State, officially inaugurated the 2026–2031 presidential tenure.
The transition of authority was marked by a significant symbolic pause at 11:18 AM, when the presidential standard flag was lowered. This act, in accordance with constitutional procedure, momentarily rendered the presidency vacant, signaling the formal end of the previous term.
During this transition, the nation was led in prayer by religious leaders.
The legal formalities were guided by Vice President Jessica Alupo, who invited the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, to formally declare the President-elect.
At 11:46 AM, President Museveni, accompanied by his daughter Natasha Karugire, stepped forward to take the Oath of Allegiance and the Presidential Oath. The oaths were administered by the Chief Judge, Dr. Flavian Zeija, amidst a grand military salute.
Upon signing the official instruments of office, the newly inaugurated President was presented with the five symbols of national power:

4: The Coat of Arms
5: The Public Seal
The 21-Gun Salute:
The ceremony reached its peak at 11:57 AM when the presidential standard was hoisted back to the top of the mast. The National Anthem was accompanied by a thunderous 21-gun salute, marking the definitive start of the new presidential term.
With the inauguration concluded, focus now shifts to the swearing-in of the 12th Parliament, scheduled to take place from 13th-15th, May 2026.
